Who are we?
The Center for Speech and Language Technologies (CSaLT) at the Lahore Univesity of Management Sciences (LUMS) was founded in May 2015 with an aim to contribute towards Speech and Language Technologies research for languages of developing countries and to employ these technologies to assist in the socio-economic development of low-literate and non-affluent people through better information access and connectivity.

Meet our Director - Dr. Agha Ali Raza
I am an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan. I am a Fulbright Scholar. I have done my PhD in Computer Science with a specialization in Language Technologies from the Language Technologies Institute, School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University, where I was advised by Roni Rosenfeld. I am also the founding director of the Center for Speech and Language Technologies (CSaLT) at LUMS (previously at ITU).
My research focusses on Speech and Natural Language Processing, Speech-based Human Computer Interfaces, Machine Learning, and Information & Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D). I teach Machine Learning, Speech Processing, and Data Structures at graduate and undergraduate levels. I have been a faculty member at FAST NU Lahore between 2005 and 2010, at ITU between 2015 and 2019, and at LUMS since 2020.
